TL;DR

  • Verizon is introducing a new three-year price lock policy.
  • The policy will be available for myPlan and myHome network plans.
  • Price locking won’t work on taxes, fees, or perks.

As everything around us continues to get more expensive, Verizon is introducing a new policy to temporarily keep your bill rising. However, this new offer comes with a few notable caveats.

Today, Verizon announced the rollout of Price Lock Guarantee. Just as it sounds, this policy locks the price of your plan so your bill will stay the same for the next three years. Whether you’re a new or existing customer, you’ll be automatically enrolled if you have myPlan or myHome. Before you get too excited about this new “guarantee,” know that Verizon added enough leeway in the fine print to allow it to raise prices in other ways.

For instance, the Price Lock Guarantee only applies to calling, data, and texting. Things like taxes, fees, and perks are excluded from the policy. If Verizon wants, it could increase the cost of your bill by raising the price of fees. It could also reduce how much of a discount you get for having autopay set up. Verizon also adds that your price lock is reset any time you change your myPlan. The company could easily convince you to switch to a more expensive plan by offering some kind of perk or a new phone.

Either way, the new Price Lock Guarantee policy is better than nothing. On top of that, the carrier is offering a free phone for new and existing customers with the trade-in of a Apple, Google, or Samsung phone in any condition.
